Palace on wheels is a luxury train. It was launched by the Indian Railways & Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation to promote tourism in Rajasthan.

We welcome you aboard to "Re-live" the Royal Experience of the Maharajas of Rajasthan and if you are really looking for a holiday of a lifetime, the Palace on Wheels is for you.

The name "Palace on Wheels" was derived from its royal back-ground of the coaches. A new meter gauge air conditioned Palace-on-Wheels was introduced in 1984 & had 14 Saloons, 2 Restaurant cum Kitchen car, one Bar cum Lounge and 4 Service Cars. In order to further increase the amenities on the train and due to overall gauge conversion in the state, a new broad gauge Palace-on-Wheels has been constructed & has been running since 1996.

 

Embark on this luxury train journey through Rajasthan as the Maharajas did - by personal train . Our joueney begins in urban center , ANd as we have a tendency to calm down to an savory dinner , the Palace on Wheels winds its thanks to the town of Jaipur. enclosed by rugged hills , every topped by a formidable fort , and delightful palaces , mansions and gardens, the Pink town of jaipur is sure to thrill . Next Stop is Ranthambore parkland - a sanctuary for tigers, deer , wild boar , gaszelles , sloth bear , leopards and a superfluity of birdlife . On expedition we tend to keep a keen eye out to sport a tigr lounging around within the sun. The train then continues into Udaipur , well-known as the town of Lakes , most celebrated for the fairy tale marble palace that seems to rise from the waters of Lake Pichola, Journey in to the guts of the thar Desert to charming Jaisalmer and find out the mighty Mehrangarh fort at Jodhpur. Finnaly arriving at the glorious Taj Mahal in urban center , this train journey can leave you with lasting reminiscences of majestic forts and palaces impeccable service and splendid comfort.

About the Train

Palace on wheels it just not a luxury name but also the pride of Indian travel industry. The concept of luxury has taken a new dimensionwhere every single aspect is precisely chosen to pamper the guests and to usher them with unparallelgenerosity.

On 26th January 1982, Palace on Wheels pioneered the tradition of luxury train journey in India and made its maiden voyage as a luxury steam engine train. This luxury Indian train started operating in aregular basis from October 1982.

The 14 fully air-conditioned sedans are decorated in a way that offer solace to your visual senses and at the same time pampers your body and soul. Wall to wall carpeting, use of rich fabric, availability of avant-garde facilities, royal furnishing, comfortable padded beds and chic en-suite bathroom are just few of the details that make each Palace on Wheels cabin a deluxe abode onboard.

There are 2 restaurants namely Maharaja and Maharani which serves the mouth-watering continental, Chinese, Rajasthani and many other dishes. 

The names of the saloons are based on the princely states of Rajasthan - Alwar, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Bundi, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jhalawar, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, Kota, Sirohi, and Udaipur.

Each saloon has cream yellow colour on its exterior walls and bear the Coat of Arms (logo) of the erstwhile princely states, along with the name and also a personal attendant is provided to each cabin which is on duty 24*7.



 

Days and Nights:8 days and 7 nights

Places covered:  New Delhi - Jaipur - SawaiMadhopur - Chittorgarh - Udaipur - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Bharatpur - Agra – Delhi.

Day 1 - Wednesday - New Delhi 

Guests will be reaching at the Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station around 4:00 pm. They will be given a warm welcome in a traditional Indian style. They will be escorted to their respective luxurious cabins where they will make relax themselves and be comfortable. The first leg of the journey will start towards Jaipur. Dinner will be served on board with overnight stay.

Day 2 – Thursday – Jaipur

Next day, early morning guests will be reaching Jaipur which is one of the well planned historical cities of the world of its time. It is the capital of Rajasthan and is also known as the Pink City which was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727 A.D. After breakfast guests will proceed towards Hawa Mahal which is also known as Palace of Winds. It is a five-storey building on the main street of the old city in pink splendour with semi-octagonal and delicate honey combed sandstone windows. Later the guests will be visiting the Amber Fort situated at a height. Elephant ride will be available to climb up the distance.

Return back to the train where dinner will be served and overnight stay.

Day 3 – Friday – SawaiMadhopur and Chittorgarh

As the journey continues to its 3rd day, guests will be arriving at Sawai Madhopur. Breakfast will be served on board and later they will be visiting Ranthambore National Park. They will be enjoying the jungle safari where they will be coming across and watching more than 300 species of birds and more particularly the tigers, hyena, jackal and fox which constitutes the carnivorous population here. Ranthambore National Park is mainly famous for its tigers which can be sighted during the months November to May. Later, return back to the Palace on Wheels and proceed the journey towards Chittorgarh. In the evening guests will reach Chittorgarh. They will be visiting the Chittorgarh Fort which still revives the stories of Rajputana valour. Evening tea accompanied by a beautiful light & sound show will be arranged at the Fort.

Return back to the train for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4 – Saturday – Udaipur

Breakfast will be served to the guests in the morning. Palace on Wheels have now reached Udaipur. This city was founded by Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar. Guests will be visiting the two most famous and beautiful sites of Udaipur i.e., the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) and the Jag Mandir, which appear to rise from the blue waters of Lake Pichhola. Later in the afternoon guests will have their lunch at a Five Star Hotel and proceed towards the floating beauty of the City Palace.


Return back to the train where dinner will be served and overnight stay.
 

Day 5 – Sunday – Jaisalmer

Guests will reach Jaisalmer early morning and breakfast will be served on board. They will be visiting Jaisalmer Fort which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort is entered through a forbidding series of massive gates leading to a large courtyard. In the evening they will also be visiting the Thar Desert for Camel joy ride & sunset photo shoot opportunity. Later enjoy cultural program & dinner at a 5-star hotel.

Return back to the Palace on Wheels for overnight stay.

Day 6 – Monday – Jodhpur

Next morning the Palace-on-Wheels will be in Jodhpur, a city ringed by a high stone wall with seven gates and several bastions. It is the second largest city of Rajasthan, founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 A.D. which is also known for its rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort. Here guests will be visiting the grand palaces such as -Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana which are impressive examples of architectural excellence. Later in the afternoon after lunch at the Palace hotel, return to the Palace-on-Wheels. Guests can rest and in the evening get ready for on board dinner. Overnight stay on board.

Day 7 – Tuesday – Bharatpur / Agra

Bharatpur
In the morning, the Palace on Wheels arrives Bharatpur, the capital of Maharaja Suraj Mal. After breakfast, pay a visit to the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting place for thousands of Egrets, Siberian Cranes, migratory Water Fowl and other species of birds. Return back to the train, the journey proceeds towards Agra.
Agra
Upon arrival at Agra, visit the Agra Fort and after lunch arrive at the Taj Mahal which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. A pristine monument of undying love. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. Agra is known for its splendid marble inlay work like the Pietra Dura work on the Taj, leather goods and jewellery. Return back to Palace on Wheels where dinner will be served on overnight stay.

Day 8 – Wednesday – Delhi

In the morning guests have now arrived at Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway station. Breakfast will be served and all the check-out formalities will be done. Journey comes to an end here.

Palace on Wheels operates weekly tours to the princely state of Rajasthan from September to April every year. The train departs every Wednesday from Safdarjung Railway Station, New Delhi and after taking the guests to the majestic cities and towns of Rajasthan, concludes its weeklong journey in Delhi itself. Please Note:

• 10% Surcharge shall be levied on departure during Christmas/New Year. 
• Service Tax shall be levied on the tariff of Palace on Wheels.
• US$ 15 per pax per trip shall be charged against the payment of commercial taxes in addition to the tariff.
• No charter can be booked during X-mas & New Year period.
• Tariff Subject can be changed without any notice

The Tariff includes:
Tariff is inclusive of travel/ catering/ conducted sightseeing/ entrance fee at monuments/ parks/ palaces/ cultural programs/ camel ride at Jaisalmer/ boat ride at Udaipur/ rickshaw ride at Bharatpur.

The Tariff does not include:
Drinks, tips, laundry, telephone calls, video camera fees, Business Car Facilities, liquor and other items of personal nature.

Booking Policy
In case of FITs:
• 50% of ticket value at the time of confirming the booking.
• Remaining 50% of ticket value 60 days prior to departure. 

In case of Group: 
• 50% of ticket value at the time of confirming the booking. 
• Remaining 50% of ticket value 75 days prior to departure.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation must be advised by Fax/E-mail/Letter to The Luxury Trains. On cancellation, refund will be made. Certain amount of the ticket value will be deducted as follows. 

In case of FITs
• 5% of ticket value 60 days or more prior to departure.
• 20% of ticket value between 59 to 30 days prior to departure. 
• 100% of ticket value between less than 30 days prior to departure.

In case of Group
• 10% of ticket value 60 days prior to departure. 
• 100% of ticket value between 0 to 59 days prior to departure.
